A few words about
What We Do
Our projects
Welcome to Nayi Zindagi, a dedicated organisation focused on supporting adults in the ethnic community with physical and learning disabilities and/or mental health challenges.
Over the years, extensive research has highlighted that minority ethnic Communities often face additional challenges, including special educational needs and profound disabilities. Unfortunately, people with learning disabilities and their families from these communities continue to experience double disadvantages and discrimination. Previous efforts to improve engagement have fallen short, necessitating a more comprehensive approach.
Education
What We Do: At Nayi Zindagi, we strive to create a positive change by engaging with individuals with learning disabilities from ethnic minority communities in a culturally sensitive and accessible manner. Our person-centred approach ensures that we promote health, and social care, and offer educational classes tailored to address the barriers faced by people with learning disabilities from ethnic communities. By empowering them with life skills, we aim to improve their quality of life and help them access the services they deserve.
Health care
To ensure the well-being of ethnic minority communities, it is crucial that their needs become integral to long-term policies and strategies for carers. Our organization has been at the forefront of groundbreaking work for the past 16 years, providing culturally appropriate services where mainstream services have fallen short. We understand that misconceptions about extended family support may not always hold true, and faith plays a significant role in addressing ethnic community issues. Nayi Zindagi aims to amplify the ethnic community carer’s voice, providing a more robust platform for their needs and concerns.
Awareness
Over the years, numerous reports have highlighted the increased risk of poverty, ill-health, unemployment, and social exclusion faced by certain ethnic minority communities. As a social enterprise, Nayi Zindagi aims to address this unmet need in the community. While we strive to do more inclusion work, the lack of funding poses limitations. However, we believe that community inclusion work with these ethnic communities should be long-term and continuous, evolving with their changing needs.
Through our continued efforts, we aspire to create a more inclusive and equitable society, where these individuals with learning disabilities receive the support and understanding they rightfully deserve.
HEALTHY MINDSET
Ongoing and Needed Work: One of our primary areas of focus is improving support for ethnic community carers, especially in light of the significant rise in the number of ethnic community older people needing care. Understanding this community and its carers and the impact of welfare reform on these populations is urgent and essential.
